Dental crowns have a long history of use in restorative dentistry, reinforcing broken or weakened teeth in millions of patients worldwide. However, in the past, dental crown procedures were much more complicated and time-consuming, often requiring at least two visits to the dentist over the course of several weeks to have a crown placed — and in the meantime, patients would have to endure pain or risk further damage.

Luckily, dental technology has come a long way in recent years, and Dr. Monica Gobran & Associates is pleased to be able to offer same-day crown restorations powered by CEREC (an abbreviation for ceramic reconstruction). This innovative technology combines computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) to produce a custom crown while you wait in the comfort and convenience of our Worcester, MA office. Dr. Monica Gobran also uses CEREC to produce custom bridges, onlays, inlays, and even veneers. Thanks to CEREC, you can get the dental care you need without having to wait. Schedule an appointment with Dr. Gobran at our office to learn more.

Custom-made CEREC dental crowns installed by Dr. Gobran and her team in Worcester, MA are a state-of-the-art way to restore teeth quickly. By using the latest technology, Dr. Monica Gobran & Associates can get an image of your tooth and restore it in a single visit. Benefits of CEREC crowns include:

  • Saving lots of time compared to traditional methods of installing crowns
  • No temporary crowns are needed
  • CEREC employs digital imaging, so you won’t have to bite into a mold
  • Top-quality materials are used for the crown
  • Using your natural tooth color, making the crown much less perceptible to the naked eye
  • Other restoration types may be available with CEREC

After examining your mouth and removing any decay from the affected tooth, Dr. Gobran will first prepare the tooth by applying a fine powder to it before capturing digital images; the powder enhances the image and makes the tooth show up more clearly on our computers. Using the 3D image of your tooth, we can then mold a digital crown that is precisely measured to fit. From that point, your restoration will be sent to the CEREC system to be made. The length of time this takes may vary, depending on the dimensions, but it generally takes about 15 minutes. When your crown is ready, Dr. Gobran will finish and polish it before adhering it to the affected tooth and cementing it in place. If any further modifications are necessary for a more comfortable fit, she will make them before you leave.

All in all, a same-day dental crown appointment generally takes about two hours from beginning to end, including 15 minutes to create the crown in our CEREC device.
