Many people tend to think of lost teeth as a cosmetic problem, but a missing tooth or teeth can actually affect your oral health by creating space for your remaining teeth to move out of place. This can lead to increased tension or pain when you're chewing and can even impact your ability to speak clearly. For those who want to restore their smile and safeguard their health, Dr. Monica Gobran & Associates offers dental bridges, which are used to cover gaps with a fake tooth (called a pontic) that is anchored in the mouth with implants or adhesives for a secure fit. The result is a top-quality restoration that looks and feels natural. If you live in Worcester, MA and are looking for a solution to replace missing teeth, call our office to schedule a dental bridge appointment with Dr. Monica Gobran.

Dental bridges supply several upsides for Worcester, MA individuals wanting to replace missing teeth and revive their oral health and appearance. These benefits include:

  • Renewed self-confidence
  • Better speaking and chewing function
  • Maintaining the natural shape of your face
  • Providing a durable and long-term tooth replacement solution
  • Optimizing your smile appearance by filling in gaps
  • Helping to prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of place
  • Dispersing bite forces evenly to shield your natural teeth

Your mouth is carefully balanced, and missing teeth can affect how well you can use it. In time, gaps can lead to surrounding teeth shifting out of place, causing bite problems (overbite, underbite, crossbite) and gum or jawbone atrophy. To place a bridge, the surrounding teeth must be strong enough to support the restoration, with good density in the jawbone and gums. Dr. Gobran will assess your mouth at your consultation to help you decide the best type of bridge (cantilever, traditional, or implant-supported) and material.

To start your dental bridge treatment, Dr. Gobran will examine your mouth, and if necessary, recontour the teeth that will be used to support the pontic. She will then create a mold of your mouth, which will be sent to a lab where your custom bridge will be constructed. This can take some time so we may install a temporary bridge for the time being. There are a few types of dental bridge techniques that you will go over in your initial consultation:

  • Traditional: The most common type, this bridge features a false tooth with two crowns on either side. The crowns are used to cover the adjacent teeth and hold the bridge in place. This type of dental bridge is ideal when there are healthy teeth to provide support on either side of the bridge.
  • Cantilever: This is functionally the same as a traditional dental bridge, but it only attaches to a single adjacent tooth.
  • Implant-supported: As the name might suggest, these bridges are secured in place with dental implants instead of being cemented to the natural teeth.

You'll return to our office once your bridge is ready for placement. First, we will numb the part of your mouth that is being treated. We can also discuss other sedation options if you feel they are necessary for your comfort. After that, the bridge will either be cemented in place between the surrounding teeth or screwed into your dental implants. Dr. Gobran may also make minor adjustments to ensure your bridge is comfortable and secure. It's normal for a dental bridge to feel a little strange at first, but you will get used to the feeling in time. You can ease this transition by sticking to soft foods for a few days.

My husband and I and our three children have been a patient of Dr Gobran’s for 10+ years . Dr Gobran and her staff are excellent! They are so friendly and accommodating I would not even think of going anywhere else. I have had a lot of major dental work done, bridges and crowns, and I am always happy with the results. About Us
How is a dental bridge different from a denture?

Unlike dentures, dental bridges are fixed in place and are not removable by the patient. They are anchored to adjacent teeth or implants, providing stability and a more natural feel.

How is a dental bridge installed?

The procedure involves preparing the adjacent teeth (if using traditional bridges), taking impressions, and creating a custom bridge in a dental lab. The bridge is then cemented or bonded into place.

How long does it take to get a dental bridge?

The process typically takes a few weeks, as it involves multiple appointments for preparation, impression-taking, and installation.
