Dental Exam

Dental Exam Worcester MA

Caring for your teeth involves more than just brushing and flossing. You also need to see your dentist on a regular basis, even if your mouth feels fine. Dental exams should ideally be done every six months to detect any oral health issues before they become serious. Dental exams are an important preventative health measure that helps protect not only your mouth but your entire body. For example, some medical conditions, such as lupus, diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis, actually appear in the mouth first. Therefore, your dentist may be able to diagnose these conditions before your physician.

A dental exam is also a good way to see how well you are doing with your oral hygiene. If you need to brush better in certain places or are missing a spot when flossing, your dentist or hygienist will let you know. You should schedule dental exams every six months, whether or not you have natural teeth. Even if you have dentures or implants, you should still see a dentist a minimum of twice a year. In search of a new dental home? Contact Dr. Monica Gobran today. We welcome new patients! At your first appointment, we will perform a thorough exam on your mouth and take X-rays to detect any issues. We will create a treatment plan and address any concerns you may have. Our team will also help you meet your oral health goals.

What to Expect

At your dental exam, you can expect multiple steps to take place. Dr. Gobran will evaluate your oral health and check for gum disease and cavities. She will also check for overall health as well as jaw alignment. If you are in need of tooth restorations, replacements or other dental work,  Dr. Gobran can advise you during the dental exam. We will also take X-rays or perform other diagnostic procedures. A full set of X-rays is typically done once every  3-5 years to check the positioning of your teeth in your mouth and look for any medical conditions.

Even if you have had dental work done in the past, you should still schedule a dental exam. If you have dentures, bridges or other restorations, your dentist can clean and adjust them to ensure proper fit. Loose dental work can cause mouth sores, infections, and other dental issues. During a dental exam, your dentist will also check for oral cancer. She will look for lesions around the mouth, including under your jaw, the roof of your mouth and around the lips and cheeks.
